Lower Streatham Neighbourhood Watch and Residents Association Minutes of meeting held on 23.07.03 In attendance: RB, TB, RL, VB, ID, JR, Cllr J Kazantzis, and Mr Mohammed Apologies: JW, DM, Cllr D Malley, JL Mr Mohammed gave a long presentation on the new Mind School in Ellison Road, and asked for help in allowing an extension of the time permitted for the school to occupy the site. (the school arrived in the site last year without planning permission, were turned down in Feb 2003 for planning permission and appealed. They lost the appeal and now face being ‘evicted’ at end of Sept 2003) Whilst there was some sympathy for the children, there were concerns from the committee that the school was based in inappropriate buildings, that support from local residents was needed and that the school hasn’t talked to local residents enough about the school’s plans. The school is also slightly outside the current remit of the nwatch. The committee felt that at this stage there was not much the nwatch could do – but that the school should contact local residents and ask them, and the council, to extend their stay until xmas so that the school can relocate.
