We need more volunteers to help with special events/activities and come up with some concrete ideas before grants can be raised. Issue to be discussed again – esp wrt to increasing vols involved. 8. Agenda Item 5 - Bad Street Amenities VB referred to his file of correspondence and e-mails and reminded the committee of the history of our request for improvements in street amenities. His letter of the 04 March 2003 to the Chairman of the Streatham Area Committee, Councillor Julian Heather, called for improvements in street lighting, the tarmac footpaths of Buckleigh, Kempshott, and Tankerville Roads to be replaced with paving stones and the broken paving stones for Ellison, Guildersfield, Penistone and Westwell Roads to be replaced. In addition due to the deplorable condition of Guildersfield, Penistone and Westwell roadways these should be resurfaced. This is quite apart from the filling of numerous potholes. The replies so far indicated that the Street Lighting Manager, Mr C R Lawson, was only willing to upgrade the street lighting at the Greyhound Lane end of Ellison Road. This has now been completed and is quite satisfactory. We will need to chase the question of general lighting. The Principle Highways Engineer, Mr Robin Aitkin, has inspected the footpaths and roadways and using a grading index for the roads, none of our requested roads come up to the resurfacing standard. As there are far worse footpaths and roadways elsewhere in the Borough ours cannot be put into this year’s programme. Dave Malley said he would find out more about the index used for roads and inform us of a suitable petitioning procedure. It was agreed that we will keep the pressure up on all fronts.
