Apologies: Roger Legate, Dave Malley, Rodolph Parkinson 1.0 Minutes of Previous Meetings and Matters Arising 1.1 The job of secretary rotated to David Mead, Jenny thanked for minutes of last meeting which were approved. 1.2 Matters arising not covered later on agenda 1.2.1 Policing, White Van burglars – see point 2 below 1.2.2 Keith Hill – Returning to area on 22/11 for tour with Rebecca 1.2.3 New nursery in Ellison – no news on planning but now focal point for small group of local kids each evening, question raised as to use for living accommodation too. 1.2.4 Vale Bus Stop, Penistone Conservation area & Cocoa’s – No further News 1.2.5 Neighbouring interest – esp along Ellison. Rebecca reports 6 people from adjoining area expressing desire to join. Agreed that those interested would be asked to help (distributing newsletters etc) and encouraged to participate but formal decision on expansion would depend on results and have to wait on next AGM Rebecca. 1.2.6 MEMBERSHIP FORMS & Bank Account – Richard confirms that the bank account is now open and previously collected sums now need to be handed in. There was discussion of membership forms/ receipts based on the triplicate carbon receipt books already obtained (member, street co-ordinator, treasurer & membership officers). Main points to clarify were – how to make officially LSNWRA (ie rubber stamp on top copy for member?), & if distinction needed to be made between existing and new members. Richard & Val to contact membership Sec. to discuss in detail. Richard / Val / Tony 2.0 CRIME Figures & Related Issues 2.1 Police Numbers Jackie confirms that Lower Streatham to get a part time second beat officers in Dec/ January (Lyn??) & that the more mature new recruits were being assigned to ‘beats’ as they came on stream – next batch in February-ish 2.2 Crimes & Figures The white van burglary spate seems to have ended – the crime figures for this area since last meeting are as follows:- 2.2.1 5 Burglaries (3 in Ellison Rd, 1 in Westwell – where the suspect was disturbed by police and 1 in Kempshott –where a window had been left open) 6 burglars have been arrested in last 2 wks in nearby areas. 1 Robbery on Lower Streatham Common where victim approached from behind, pushed to the ground and credit cards taken Attempted murder at top of Greyhound lane (drive by shooting) was reported ‘off borough’ and therefore doesn’t show on our figures – details not known as to if parties knew each other or were strangers. JR 2.3 INFO PLEASE request was made for information on use of a certain location in Ellison Road as it appears to have become a squat and potential crackhouse. Also anyone willing to be possible ‘eyes’ particularly welcome. ALL (RB) 2.4 Reporting crime There is a number to call for non 999 crimes which allows the public to get a crime no. for minor crimes and would then increase the reporting of crime in this area (thereby strengthening our case for more resources). Jackie to provide no for ‘Lambeth Call Receipt’ which will be circulated. JR 2.5 Council Initiatives to tackle crime ALL Council is launching a number of initiatives to reduce crime across the borough as part of a larger strategy – next meeting for Streatham plan is Town Centre office on 21/11 and Rebecca to attended and others if possible. Issues on Priorities and funding & new Warden Schemes. RL 3.0 NEWSLETTER 3.1 Draft circulated and approved – Agreed that Street Co-ordinators / committee would be canvassed to include their names & phone nos Jon 3.2 Publishing due in late Nov for circulation in December. ALL 4.0 Future projects – and possible grant applications 4.1 Past projects Partial success on Police Numbers – see section on crime Good petition on 20 mph zone blocked by council – contact local press? DM? 4.2 Future Projects POOR PAVEMENTS won unanimous support as next campaigning issue to push. It was agreed that we need to act to counter years of neglect which have left our pavements in such bad shape –especially as once again all the funding to put this right was concentrated in Brixton, Clapham etc. All to be asked to nominate worst spot and if possible to photograph it for dossier to put to council to be launched at next public meeting. ALL – worst paving probs. 4.3 Public Meeting Proposed for late march in Immanual School hall 4.4 Grants Available These come from a variety of sources – some have to be applied and approved before spending, others will only refund once group pays up front. Funds are available for things such as : printing costs for newsletter, we can apply for these now. RG/RB Hire of hall – again we can apply now for future meetings. RG/RB Campaigns – eg better pavement campaign - could be used for display boards, photography costs such as enlargements/laminating. RG 5.0 Any Other Business 5.1 Mazda car parking problem – Val reported that letter has been written but as yet no response. Val to follow up with Roger Legate & Mazda Val 5.2 Dog mess – a small number of signs have been put up – but quite in –effective. David to approach council again DM 5.3 Sainsbury’s noise and hygiene nuisance – no action taken as yet DM 6.0 Date of Next Meeting ? Monday 16th December 2002 at the Pied Bull
